09:39 pm - Very Poor Choice Of Words
I've seen The Dark Knight after all! I was boycotting WB in my heart, though! (And God, how annoying is it that all these reviews about HBP is coming out now - a year before I can see the movie. I just ignore it, but I'm still pissed. Oh, young Snape will be in two photos?! He might be in a photo with Regulus!!! He should be in a photo with Lucius - remember he was mysteriously cast as well? I wouldn't mind seeing these photos! If any of the reviews mentioned the young Snape "scenes", please tell me! Only HBP news I care about for the reminder of 08.)

Anyway, Batman. Read more... )

11:58 pm - .... July 2009???
Argh, WB hates me, whatever have I done to them? First they deprive me of TDK long enough that I go from being super hyped to feeling that it's a chore to watch that lame old movie (some time after the fucking 22nd of August) that I probably have to do to because of Heath Ledger (I need to form an opinion on that performance after all! Plus I've always had I quite the crush)  If it wasn't for him, I'd seriously be over Batman.

AND NOW? They show Half-Blood Prince a fucking year later??? They give out the world wide release dates on one day, only to push them back ... 8 months the next? I'm ready to be through with goddamned Hollywood. A little entertainment, is that too much to ask? Is this some kind of prank? Or was I right all along when I feared there is so little promotion because they are desperately trying to finish up the movie? I thought I was being ridiculous, but it's them.

Worst of all, I watched Wanted. Not at the cinema, thank god, but for free was still way too expensive. Someone should have assassinated that director way before he lay his hands on the sensefree Night Watch/Day Watch series, not to mention him moving on to the west to do much worse with an fascinatingly even less likable protagonist. (The loom of fate must have foreseen that!) There must have been some good acting going on at least, because it had James McAvoy's adorable face and I still want to kill it with fire... (Anyway, this was really not helping my wish to seek out comic adaptations ... ever again in life, either.)

Plus, seriously, Juno was not that great. As far as I remember Little Miss Sunshine was better, but all in all I'm tired of this obvious cutesy button pushing, while trying to be oh-so-quirky.

Cinema is dead to me, I go back to watching the first season of Dexter! TV, I say, is the surprising innovative, but professional high quality entertainment of the future! Although to be fair, Dexter might be the best piece of TV I've seen so far. (Now that is an anti-hero after my taste, and not only because he is surprisingly lovable, he is original and interesting, too.) Also, it is made after books, though they are allegedly not up to the shows standard. (And not only because Dex is less lovable. ;))

Ahem, I'm feeling better now

09:35 am - Consider me not disappointed

The Trailer  And yes, if you haven't watched it, you should!

This is unexpected! They made a Tom Riddle trailer! They pretty much show us the entire orphanage scene and it's a thing of absolute beauty. It's probably the best scene in the movie by far (although it wasn't my favorite in the book) but that still makes the entire movie worth it, worth all the millions it cost to produce and worth all of the money I'll spend to consume it. I don't even mind Dumbledore's lack of high-heeled plum and auburn fabulousness. They probably thought it would take away from the adorably creepy evil of Hero Fiennes Tiffin's baby Voldemort.

In my next life I want to be a member of the Fiennes family.  They rule.

I really hope they're making at least one more trailer though. This is so obviously not representing the whole movie and they seem to be trying a whole new marketing concept of starting extremely late and then creating  short hysteric frenzy (I *think* that's what they planning) that I actually have high hopes for more at this point.

06:36 pm - I Want To Believe
Yesterday I've seen the X-Files movie and have to admit I liked it! It's not a fantastic movie for the ages, probably, but it's definitely more of the good old X-files! Disgusting and thrilling with the most likable and photogenic leading couple, working through their eternal doubts and issues.Spoilers )

All in all I had a great time and I'd watch another movie with pleasure if they care to make one. For now, I'll look if I can find other posts about this one.

Also, the HBP trailer comes out tonight! If I don't post anything about it within 24 hours of it's appearance on youtube, consider me deeply disappointed.

Gah, my firewall killed my internet for days. I wanted to post and everything. Something more important than a meme, but those times are gone. :p

You heard that fitting to the completely black HBP teaser poster they now released a completely black teaser trailer with a Dumbledore voiceover? They're really trying not to get on anyone's nerves with their little movie, aren't they? Not appreciated.  There is sticker albums, though! LOL.

Entertainment Weekly's top 100 films of the last 25 years (meme):

- Underline the ones you own
- *Put an asterisk to the ones you love
Italicize the ones you want to see

I love movie memes. Way less depressing and insulting than book memes )

I agree with these top 3 by the way. I'm quite surprised by Blue Velvet!

01:43 pm - Potter Prequels and Adaptations
Urgh, if you want to read JKR's James/Sirius ficlet, someone at ONTD typed it out here and here. I call it a James/Sirius ficlet in the desperate attempt to make it sound interesting, which it is not. On a positive note, it gives us no new "canon" as some people may have feared, except maybe  SPOILER! ) Oh fuck, on second thought, I guess that's pretty bad! :p Mostly it's just about James and Sirius hilariously being "bad boys" and, on an actual positive note, it's incredibly short!

Honestly, I'm slowly coming around to the "I hope JKR never ever writes anything about this universe again" side of things. I am still ready to change my mind whenever it pleases me, but I don't think it will please me anytime soon.

Here's where you get a lot of famous author's stories, maybe some of them are good and readable handwriting-wise, who knows.

So, as I mentioned I am a Harry Potter movie fan nowadays. That's exactly the banner I've been seeing in my head: Harry and Dumbledore and Draco and Snape. So much for WB not knowing what HBP is about.

And the pictures you have likely already seen, but can't see often enough:

:D )

Dear God, It's like part of a hilarious photo-love-story! I have no idea why Draco is dressed that way for the Room of Requirement... You know that he didn't actually want to crash that party, Yates, don't you? Anyway, YAY IT'S IN THE MOVIE. Now I live in fear that they cut the Sectumsempra scene. I heard rumors about that. Wouldn't that be insane? It's such an exciting bloody scene and I believe Dan could actually be great in it. You're cutting yourself in the chest WB, I hope you know it!

Oh, and here is Harry trying to convince Hermione of how awesome Snape is to no avail, cause that's just cute. )

ETA: Wow, Rich text editor will fuck your post up, sorry if the cuts didn't work.

09:42 pm - HBP casting, Malfoy edition
Okay so they're casting young Lucius Malfoy, too. For a dinner scene with Slughorn. I sincerely hope they're not attempting to pretend he went to school with Tom Riddle... Will he be in the same photo as Regulus? (which would also be incorrect) Or he will just get his own photograph with Slughorn, which will be shown in what will be an amazing, far too fast moving scene! I think at least young Bella or Cissy should be next to him. Slughorn invites girls as well, you know? And definitely Blacks. - Although, to be IC Slughorn should want to hide these picture...

Here is a video of him talking about growing Lucius hair and wearing a 60s uniform. (from 2.20 on) And that's his picture )

Of course there are these Narcissa pics out there )

Hm, not exactly as I imagined her, but I can't hate anymore. I think there's the right mix of strength and vulnerability and she won't look like a kid next to Rickman. Probably it's just that I cannot wait for this scene.

And while we're at the right family, everyone heard Tom Felton say that there are no scenes from the book that obviously stand out to him as being cut? The guy who plays Draco Malfoy can't think of an important scene being cut. This means that all the best scenes of the books are shot, because interestingly in this book, Draco is in all the best scenes (except Spinner's End). I'm going to take that as a good sign, and blame Tom if the movie doesn't deliver.

That teaser trailer on the other hand, doesn't sound too exciting. Seems like they're just showing off all the important and unimportant plot points, never to forget the dramatic attack on the burrow. I hate this bloody burrow attack.

02:44 pm - Best Casting News Ever
OMG OMG OMG THEY CAST REGULUS. OMG REGULUS WILL BE IN THE HBP MOVIE. THEY WILL SHOW REGULUS! How? They can't give away Kreacher being there. Will they show him writing and signing the letter, a scene I imagined so often? What will they do? The chances are extremely good that this means they'll have him in one of the DH movies as well.

Just look at him:
Photobucket

If he is lying about playing Regulus. If he or someone uploaded that info on April 1st or something, this is a damned good lie. (But I'm too skeptical. This looks like it's confirmed, yes? No?) He is perfect. Thank you for existing, Tom Moorcroft!

Fanvids, icons, manips with Regulus doing canon Regulus-y things (hopefully)! I wouldn't have dreamed! Or is it possible that he will only be in a photo? Still good news because they bother to show him to us, which can only mean the best of things.

I totally overlooked that my last entry was the 100th post. WOHOO. So I'm gonna celebrate 101 posts on lj in style with a few memes...

Tell me of a fandom you know I know of and I'll tell you:
1. The character I first fell in love with:

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:
4. The character I love that everyone else hates:

6. The character I would shag anytime:
7. The character I'd want to be like:

9. A pairing that I love:
10. A pairing that I despise:

That actually seems incredibly hard to answer, but I'm ready to play if you are!

11:43 pm - We Could Be Heroes...
So The Golden Compass rather flopped with the critics? I honestly didn't think that it was a bad movie. Lyra was very Lyralike, which means she was absolutely adorable. The ice-bear riding scene was almost as breathtaking as in the book. That creepy golden monkey was seriously creepy, as was his human. The zeppelins et al. looked wonderful... I was pleased.

The one thing that really annoyed me was the explanation in the beginning. Why would it be important to know that this is another world and people in our world actually don't have visible animal souls. I mean O RLY? (And if they had mentioned the words "a Golden Compass" one more time, an vein on my forehead might have burst.) But then I read people complain about the movie being hard to follow... The n00bs I saw the movie with definitely had no trouble following.

Spoiler Warning for book and movie )

Maybe I just don't care enough about His Dark Materials and therefore can't rage about all the injustice like a proper fan.

Also, I managed to catch up on Heroes, probably minus two episodes somewhere in the middle. Thank god for the writers strike, so I had a chance to do that. :p

All in all the show is fun!

  • I'm sick. :( Posting to lj is the closest thing to get work done I'll manage today. That and maybe finishing my Murakami book! \o/ Also, ouch.
  • LJ sold to SUP. At first I thought it mighty childish of me to react slightly paranoid to that ("OMG The Russians are coming!") but now that so many Russian users are all paranoid, delete their accounts and whatnot... D: I guess I should rather look for a comm planning Putin's assassination on Insanejournal now? (Joking, ex-comrads, joking!)
  • Yes Virginia, there is a Blaise:

:D Again, perfect. Well, black, beautiful and sort of noble looking was not that hard to get right, was it? I really did not expect to see him. Does that mean the train ride will be just like in the book? YYYYYYYYY!
  • Recently I have been browsing around Wikipedia, and now I finally know where the term Mary Sue comes from - from a Mary Sue parody fic. (That's somehow disappointing, I was hoping she was a serious character once.) I discovered that Severus Snape is actually part of the description of Byronic Hero :D and that JKR's father is called Peter James Rowling. D: Peter James. I hope you know what that means: If you ever catch one of your kids reading a book chase them outside to play football, you do not want your child to be an author! The best Peter James can hope for is that Sirius and Lupin are also meant to represent parts of him - and this is not all that much to hope for! (If you think this observation is disrespectful towards Jo, please feel free to flag this post as offensive.)

06:33 pm - Potterish Squee
So I attempted to make a fanvid and then attempted to upload it to youtube. The latter seemed to have worked nicely so watch it and give it the five stars I deserve - morally, not for the vid. Albus/Gellert it is!

How much do I ever love this sketch by JKR? Let me count the ways! 1001, at least! Read more... )

It's depressed Snape with a stubble, looking rough and hot! Fandom needs to embrace the stubble like yesterday. Why would Snape always been clean shaven? It makes no sense. It probably takes a second to cast a shaving spell and who has always time for shit like that.
I hope she puts all her drawings in the encyclopedia and hurries up with it, wouldn't even matter if the text sucks then.

Also, I've bought the OotP DvD for €10 - plus a Coke Zero! Yay! Pretty, pretty. The extras are nice. *insert obligatory Natalie Tena crush* The deleted scenes are OK, but it doesn't seem all that tragic that they were delelted. No prolonged pensieve scene of course, but we knew that. Ooh, ouch, I somehow didn't realise that Steve Vander Arc would be on the special features ... This is a little awkward now!

The Half-Blood Prince movie, I can not wait for it! Lavender is perfection. Look, sometimes they can be arsed to just cast the perfect person:Read more... )

I especially can't wait for the posters and campaign they will create fot that movie! All the Draconess and Snapeness that needs to entail. I realised, looking at all the five Potter DVDs - not watching them - looking at them, what do you think I buy them for? - that they were always very true to the books with the movies and marketing. OotP: 1) Sextett 2) DEs 3) Order; Gof: Triwizard champions; PoA: 1) Trio 2) Sirius etc. So, yeah, gonna be awesome.

That was my fangirling for today!

10:40 am - Breaking news: ... Ah, whatever
I guess it's a good thing that the fandom imploded on a weekend I didn't have the time to be online longer than half an hour at a piece - and by "didn't have the time" I mean I was physically unable to - otherwise there's always time - so I couldn't spend 60 hours straight discussing Dumbledore's public outing.

I was however grinning stupidely for 60 hours straight! OMFGYES

As far as I'm concerend the romantic nature of Albus/Gellert was undeniable in canon. I don't think I ever really stopped to ask myself if that was on purpose on JKR's part, mostly because nobody challanged me by saying it wasn't canon. They ignored me at worst. However, my view has been challenged now as far as I read the discussions, so...

12:18 pm - JKR says stuff! (and I update - that's how it's probably always going to be)
About Snape! In case you haven't heard.

But like in the novels themselves, it was the great question of Severus Snape that brought down the house. A wide grin across her face, Rowling said she delighted in the fact that, even after "Deathly Hallows," there was still some speculation as to the true leanings of the erstwhile Potions Master.

"Snape is vindictive, he's cruel. He's not a big man," she insisted. "But he loves. I like him, but I'd also like to slap him hard."

Cue outrage! WHO IS CRUEL AND VINDICTIVE, YOU GRINNING MURDERING ... Now she even begins to admit how conflicted she is. :D

I hope with this "I like him" we can stop pretending that she loves Sirius and hates Snape. "I like him, but" is the one thing Sirius arguable had over him in terms of JKR's remarks.

Earlier, Rowling said she was particularly pleased with how Snape's story played out throughout the course of the series, contrasting his character arc with that of Dumbledore.

"Although [Dumbledore] seems to be so benign for six books, he's quite a Machiavellian figure, really. He's been pulling a lot of strings. Harry has been his puppet," she explained. "When Snape says to Dumbledore [toward the end of 'Hallows'], 'We've been protecting [Harry] so he could die at the right moment' — I don't think in book one you would have ever envisioned a moment where your sympathy would be with Snape rather than Dumbledore."

There. Snape was obviously more likable than Dumbledore in that chapter on purpose and even in Rowling's conflicted mind.

I guess I'll cut for a bit now )

12:32 pm - A link or two.
Have you heard of [info]projectdownload? If she gets 5 million downloads she'll get lots of money from Megaupload which she desperately needs for her brain surgeries. I fully believe she is for real. I don't know how much you can trust Megaupload, but I vaguely trust them to prefer good publicity over bad publicity and I think it should be tried out! One IP address can download once a day. It's a tiny text file, does no harm. (I've been doing it for a couple of days now.) Here is the download link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5QBOA940

And a fandom rec: This vid is fantastic! A tribute to the victims of Voldemort. Heh. I almost cried for Tonks for the first time and then there was the rest of the vid, and whatever you think of Fred, when George is still smiling on the spot where he just faded out OMG! :´´´(
It's really well done.

I always wanted to repeat my character popularity poll after DH, actually longer after DH, but as it's currently unclear how long and in which form my population (lj fandom) will continue to exist ...

Please fill out! (Doesn't matter if you think you've done this before or not, of course.)

If you don't care about a character one way or another or can't decide which feeling is stronger, just choose neither "like" nor "don't like".

If you find yourself wondering if you should answer for canon, fanon or the movies, the answer is canon, which includes all seven books. If you can't separate, you can't separate. I want your spontaneous personal biased opinion of the characters in the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling.

Any open questions? Just ask!

12:25 am - My pet peeve. Let me show you it.
For the love of god, there is no often repeated folk wisdom I detest more than "Marriage was not about love before the 20th century" "Marriage for love is a relatively new concept." Yeah, the concept is brand new and original. Romeo and Juliet, for example, were trying to build a reasonable life and business partnership! Shakespeare would be all confused if he found out that modern readers interpret them as marrying because they fell in love. What exactly Nelly's point was when she asked Cathy if she loved Edgar enough to marry him is impossible to say in retrospect. I also don't know why Antigone's fiancé killed himself out of grief for her, but I guess he must have kinda liked her for reasons utterly unconnected to being her fiancé. I mean, how would I know what weird, completely different emotions people wrote about prior to the 20th century, but it surly couldn't have been romantic love between a bride and a groom. Why would there be a connection between forming a positive sexual relationship and the concept of romance? Totally different things, right? Jesus Christ.

There is a lot to say about marriage. At some points in time and space it was only necessary for folk who had property (very logical) at some points it was more or less necessary for everyone who made children for moral reasons. Nowadays in the western world it is completely unnecessary for almost everyone and so we can conclude that a some people only do it to celebrate their ~love~. Albeit people still have other reasons: It's expected, it makes the parents happy, taxes, heritage, being allowed to live in your spouse's country, just feeling more secure in the relationship, whatever. What definitely didn't change is the fucking concept of marriage for romantic love, which is the romantic ideal at the very least since written language existed and I'm going to hazard a guess long before.

Wow, that was random.

Next time in this series: "Only bad news are good news!" and "Rape is not about sex, it's about dominance!" Grr Argh

So, I ignored my gj until now because the very thought of it bored me. Going to gj should be an exciting prospect with all those icons. Too much freedom for me, maybe? I guess I'm starting to friend people there now, in case I or everyone else gets suspended or just too pissed off with lj. Friend me?

Lj would "deserve" everyone deleting their accounts or at least putting them back to basic for being new permanent account deleting asshats (for posting adult smut!). For fuck's sake, first they reinstall pornish_pixies and apologise for deleting it in the first place, then they suspend a user for posting there?! But the sad truth is, I would suffer much more from that than lj would... I'm not sure we can win a fight against 6A, sorry to say. (I fully approve of spamming and insulting them for great justice, though!)
We can only adapt and share the smut, and possibly soon all fanworks, on fanowned sites and archives, probably locked down and password-protected for everyone's safety. Maybe cool sites will come out of this! Although they won't last forever either.

04:32 pm - Back to the really important topics
Do you think snape is a hero
J.K.R: Yes, I do; though a very flawed hero. An anti-hero, perhaps. He is not a particularly likeable man in many ways. He remains rather cruel, a bully, riddled with bitterness and insecurity - and yet he loved, and showed loyalty to that love and, ultimately, laid down his life because of it. That's pretty heroic!

Did lily ever have feelings back for Snape?
J.K.R.: Yes. She might even have grown to love him romantically (she certainly loved him as a friend) if he had not loved Dark Magic so much, and been drawn to such loathesome people and acts.

She would have loved him and they were meant to be (except not - you know what I mean) and James was absolutely right to be jealous, fucking loser, and I now ship them from the bottom of my heart. Just saying.

Personally I think all live chats with JK Rowling should be taken as gospel truth and canoner than canon but I might - possibly - be biased right now.

ETA: He wanted Lily and he wanted Mulciber too.

Hehehehe. Yeah, me and Voldemort, always only thinking in one direction.
